Managing Director of Godolphin Australia Henry Plumptre has revealed smart filly Ghisoni will likely bypass the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, with a view towards contesting the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 25th.
Ghisoni has only made five appearances at the races since debuting in the late stages of 2015, but has already claimed three impressive wins highlighted by a comfortable triumph in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on February 27th.
Confirming the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 28th will figure as the first point of call for the daughter of Lonhro upon her arrival in Brisbane, Plumptre wrote on the Godolphin website the team may elect to gear the filly towards a solitary Group 1 target in the 2016 Tattersall’s Tiara.
“The Stradbroke is a tempting target for Ghisoni, but so is the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara run at Eagle Farm on June 25,” Plumptre said.
“If Ghisoni is kept to fillies’ events she is likely to follow the Glenglogan Park Stud Stakes with the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes at Eagle Farm on the same program as the Stradbroke at Eagle Farm on June 11.
“It might be a more suitable plan to stick to fillies’ races, particularly when we take into account the races that are available to her in the spring.
“We have a forward eye on the Melbourne carnival and whatever decisions we take now will have that in mind.”
Ghisoni produced a number of promising trials in the lead-up to her competitive debut, and immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow with a strong performance for a two length win in the TAB Rewards Maiden Plate (1200m) on November 11th.
Repeating the dose in the Watagan Grange BM73 (1200m) on November 28th, Ghisoni weakened in the final stages of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) to finish a credible sixth on March 12th, and placed fifth in the talent-rich Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) most recently on Day 2 of The Championships.
