Trainer Kelly Doughty is confident stable star Flamboyer will relish a step-up in distance when he lines up for the Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday.

Flamboyer has been a strong and consistent performer for Doughty through his entire racing career since debuting in early 2013; posting a commendable eight wins and twelve minors through a total of thirty-six appearances.

While yet to be proven over a mile competitively, the Clang gelding carries winning black type form into the Tattersall’s Mile 2016, and Doughty believes the horse has never been better equipped for a strong run at the distance.

“I have been keen to get him out to 1600 metres and it might as well be now,” Doughty told AAP.

“He has been strong at the finish of his two recent runs and if the tracks stay wet it won’t hurt him.

“He has been able to roll along on the pace in his races and that should be the case again on Saturday.”

Flamboyer returned to racing in typically smart form through the winter and spring of 2015, and his competitive campaign was highlighted by consecutive wins in the CFMEU Queensland Branch Handicap (1200m) and Chainsaw Whisperer Handicap (1200m) in Brisbane.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his return this year, Flamboyer placed a credible third in the Women’s Cancer Foundation Plate (1200m) first-up on February 20th before a luckless run for 12th in the Carbine Club Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) three weeks later.

Returning to the paddock for a freshen-up after placing eighth in the Southern Sheet & Coil BM85 (1200m) on March 19th, the five-year-old won a classy Gold Coast trial by four lengths on May 10th before running third in the Led Super Screens BM85 (1350m) on May 14th.

Returning to winning form in the Carlton Draught Plate (1400m) on June 25th, Flamboyer delivered a smart field a near-two length defeat in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) on the Sunshine Coast last time out on July 2nd.

The 2016 Tattersall’s Mile field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (July 20th).
