Connections of Sweet Music will be pencilling in better races after the tiny galloper overcame a troubled start to win the Essendon Mazda Sprint (955m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

The son of Choisir tangled his leg with Heeza Bonza who nearly fell at gate release causing both horses to lose three lengths and momentum.

Note To Bee and The Counterfeiter shared the lead and the duo set a good pace.

Rockbird and Lady Antebellum settled behind the pair while Michelle Payne continually worked on Sweet Music for a respond.

At the turn, The Counterfeiter found a length but the big galloper Rockbird took over 50m from the line.

Sweet Music was widest on the turn but sprouted wings late to get up in the last stride.

It was the Andrew Noblet-trained filly’s second win in three starts adding to a Seymour maiden in mid-November.

“He looked like he copped a bit at the start and full credit to the horse,” Noblet said.

“I was worried when he was back that far.

“This horse is barely 15 hands but is a real little tryer, he is all heart.

“His last win was very good, the time was good and the owners here like to have a bet so good on them.

“He has surprised us a bit and I not sure where to go next.”

Payne gave all credit to the horse.

“The horse beside him knuckled and I think it collected his leg,” Payne said.

“After that he was changing legs and couldn’t go and felt terrible in his action.

“He couldn’t keep up and I thought we were in a bit of trouble.

“He slowly came into it approaching the corner, but then wobbled around the corner.

“The track might be a bit firm for him.

“His action was better the last time he ran and for him to get up was a huge win as I never thought I was going to.”
