The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained Stay With Me scored a comfortable win in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

Hayes said that he had the option of stepping Stay With Me up in distance and head towards the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 5 or stick to the 1600m that he knows she can handle.

“I probably don’t want to go much further than a mile this preparation,” Hayes told AAP.

“I don’t think she’s racing like a stayer at the moment. She’s over-racing a little bit, so I’ll just keep her at the shorter distance.”

The Myer Classic is run at weight for age for the fillies and mares and Stay With Me will be asked to only carry 49kg which will be a huge advantage for the in-form filly.

“I think she’s just starting to peak,” Hayes said.

Hayes will now have to start scouting around to find a rider that is capable of riding the lightweight.

Stay With Me was only having her sixth race start when she beat a strong field of fillies in the Thousand Guineas and the win took her prizemoney earnings to well over $400,000.

The daughter of Miss Finland, herself a Thousand Guineas winner as well as winning a Gold Slipper Stakes, put the writing on the wall three starts back when she came to town to win the Listed $120,000 Telstra Phonewords Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5.

Stay With Me then failed to run on off a slow early pace when sixth to Miss Gunpowder in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

But the Street Cry filly was back to best in the Thousand Guineas and now gets her chance to take on the seasoned mares on the first day of the week long Melbourne Cup Carnival.
