Fifty-five sprinters made up the first list of nominations for the weight for age feature sprint of the Brisbane Winter Carnival when entries closed today.

The Ciaron Maher trained Srikandi was one of the stars of the 2014 Winter Carnival which saw her win the Listed $150,000 Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast, the Listed $100,000 Juanmo Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 $150,000 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben before running third to River Lad in the Group 1 $1.36m Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Srikandi showed that she has returned to Queensland a better racehorse going on the way she toyed with her opposition in winning the Group 2 $200,000 SMEG Victory Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on the weekend.

The Dubawi mare is yet to win at Group 1 level but that could be achieved in the next couple of months.

Group 1 winners who have been nominated for the Doomben 10000 include the Tony Gollan trained Temple Of Boom, Darren Weir’s dual Group 1 winner Trust In A Gust, three times Group 1 winner Boban and Kiwi sprinter El Roca who also has collected two Group 1 trophies.

Gollan is hoping to win back to back Doomben 10000s after Temple Of Boom was beaten a nose by stablemate Spirit Of Boom in last year’s version.

Gollan has entered Alma’s Fury, Gundy Spirit, Hijack Hussy and promising filly Traveston Girl who finished third to Doomben 10000 entrants Nostradamus and Time For War in the Group 3 $125,000 Attwood Marshall Lawyers Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at the Gold Coast last Saturday.

As well and Nostradamus, Team Hawkes has also nominated three year old Kaepernick and the Rockhampton Rocket Our Boy Malachi who returned from a spell in scintillating fashion to win the Group 3 $150,000 Ticketek Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 18.

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has entered Boban along with the well performed German import Flamingo Star.

Premiership winning trainer Peter Moody has only nominated two for the Doomben 10000 and he will bring Peron and Bring Me The Maid to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival.

Bring Me The Maid resumed from a spell to go done narrowly to Delectation in the Group 2 $500,000 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m) at Randwick on April 11 while Peron finished just behind the placegetters when fifth in Group 2 $300,000 Drummond Golf Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 11.

First late nominations for the Doomben 10000 close on Friday, May 1 with final declarations being at 9am on Wednesday May 20, 2015.
