All I Survey will face the toughest test of his racing career to date in the 2015 South Australian Derby tomorrow, but trainer Pat Carey is confident that the progressive stayer will run well in the Group 1 event at Morphettville tomorrow.
All I Survey was set for the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) after he recorded a dominant victory at Terang on March 23 and finished third in the Listed Galilee Series Final (2500m) at Flemington on April 11, but he was ruled out of the race due to a foot abscess.
The Domesday gelding quickly bounced back from the issue and Carey elected to give All I Survey an opportunity at the highest level of racing following his strong second in the Teminus Hotel Healesville Handicap (2000m) at Caulfield last Saturday.
Carey told RSN this morning that he has always had a big opinion of All I Survey and based on the three-year-olds form this preparation he is confident that he is ready to run a big race in the 2015 South Australian Derby.
“He was good last week and he was due to run in the St Leger, so he is a pretty fit horse,” Carey said.
“He couldn’t run because he had a little abscess to his heel, so we ran him last week just to tidy him up and he ran really good.
“He is a strong going sort of horse, so back to a mile and quarter after you had been trained up for a distance, he was quiet suited by the tempo.
“We thought he was a horse with staying promise for quite a while before he even started on this prep and last prep we earmarked him for these sort of races.
“Tomorrow is obviously his biggest test, but I was pretty happy with the way he went at Flemington behind Manapine and I think Manapine is a pretty good horse in the making, so I think that form will prove pretty good.
“I think that he will run very well tomorrow.”
All I Survey has generally been ridden as a back-marker during his racing career to date and Carey believes that the promising gelding is set to get an outstanding run into the South Australian Derby from barrier seven tomorrow.
“I am really happy with his draw,” Carey said.
“It just allows him to slot into a nice position I think.
“Some of the chances are drawn out wider, but he is drawn well to get a good run in the race.”
All I Survey is currently available at 2015 South Australian Derby odds of $13 with Ladbrokes, while Delicacy ($2.90) is a clear favourite from Manapine ($7) and October Date ($8).
