Favourite Sold For Song is not yet a confirmed runner for the Group 3 $125,000 XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
Sold For Song scored an overdue win in the Listed $125,000 Landfill Logistics Daybreak Lover (1400m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday and Toowoomba trained Kevin Kemp will wait as long as possible before he decides if the Collate filly backs up this week.
“At the moment she’s 100 per cent and if she stays that way she’ll run,” Kemp told Racing Queensland News.
“I decided to accept with her this morning but I won’t make a final decision about running until Saturday morning.”
Sold For Song was narrowly beaten four starts back when second to Takedown in the Group 3 $125,000 All-New Jaguar XF Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 7 but then finished down the track when twelfth to Counterattack in the Group 3 $125,000 Sky Racing Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben two weeks later.
The Toowoomba filly then drew the outside barrier in the eighteen horse field when third in the Group 2 $400,000 MIRVAC Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 11 before being rewarded with a win in the Daybreak Lover.
Kemp said that Sold For Song has shown enough during the Winter Carnival to being thinking about a Spring Carnival Campaign and he is also eyeing off some big targets in next year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival.
“Win, lose or draw she’ll go for a break after this run and lan and I will then sit down and go through the programs to see what is available for her in the south,” Kemp said.
“But I must admit I can’t wait for the Brisbane winter carnival to come around again next year.”
“We think she will be an ideal Stradbroke Handicap horse next year.”
Sold For Song was out of luck at the barrier draw for the Sunshine Coast Guineas, coming up with gate twelve in the fifteen horse field, but Kemp was not too concerned.
“It’s a very even field and the barriers are of no concern to her as she gets back,” Kemp said.
