Wet weather may delay Solar Charged's winter carnival campaign

The classy Solar Charged may not make it to the Gold Coast to begin her winter carnival campaign this weekend due to the wet weather.

The three-year-old filly has been nominated for both the Listed Silk Stocking and the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas on Saturday, but may not run in either.

Trainer John O’Shea will be watching the Queensland weather closely and will make his decision by Thursday night, but feels that her presence at the track would be unlikely.

“It’s highly unlikely given the weather there,” O’Shea said.

“We’ll accept and see how the week progresses.

“I won’t make a decision until Thursday night when the horse has got to go.”

If the weather clears enough to dry the rain-affected track, Solar Charged will more than likely start in the Listed Silk Stocking for fillies and mares as opposed to the Gold Coast Guineas.

“If she runs she’ll be in the fillies and mares race,” O’Shea said.

“Nash (Rawiller) can ride her in that race so we would be inclined to go there.”

The rain that has ravaged Brisbane and its surrounding areas of late has put a bump in what O’Shea thought would be a smooth start to the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival for Solar Charged.

“I thought it would be a track and a race that would probably suit her,” he said.

Solar Charged proved that she is unable to handle wet ground when she finished tenth last start in the Group 1 The Galaxy on a Heavy rated track.
