Snow White, a full sister to Pierro, made her barrier trial debut at Rosehill Gardens this morning and trainer Peter Snowden is keeping his expectations in check for the filly.
Snow White competed in heat 5 over 900 metres for two-year-old fillies this morning and was well held by jockey Kerrin McEvoy; with the daughter of Lonhro finishing fifth behind Spirit Of Joy who won the trial by four lengths in impressive fashion.
Snowden told TVN that he has been happy with the progress of Snow White but believes that history shows that she will not be better than her brother Pierro, who now stands at Coolmore Stud for the fee of $77,000 following his retirement after his second place finish in the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) earlier this year.
“Lightning doesn’t usually strike twice, they can be good horses and win races but they are never as good,” Snowden said.
“All Too Hard is good but not as good as Black Caviar and it is the same with Lonhro and Niello.
“They have good ability but they are never as good.
“She will take a bit of time so we are not rushing her.
“I’m quite happy where she is at but she is no Pierro yet.”
It will almost be impossible for Snow White to better the feats of Pierro as a two-year-old; with the classy colt winning the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) and Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) before completing the three-year-old Triple Crown of the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Champion Stakes (1600m).
Pierro won the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) and Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) in the spring but had his winning streak ended by All Too Hard in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and finished third in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).
He returned to the races the following autumn and won the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m), Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before ending his career with a defeat, carrying the top weight of 57kg on a bottomless track, to Sacred Falls in the Doncaster Handicap.
Pierro and Snow White’s half sibling Thunder Set, out of Reset who sired Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner, recorded his first career win after 23 starts in the Yellowglen Maiden Plate (2200m) at Eagle Farm on October 30.
