Emerging sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme and star filly Sniterzland have been named to contest the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on Saturday just seven days after failing when favourites in their respective tasks on Derby Day.
Howmuchdoyouloveme was heavily backed in the Group 2 Yellowglen Stakes (1200m) after a scintillating jump-out down the Flemington straight in the lead-up but failed to show his usual zip and was beaten four lengths in eighth position.
Snitzerland was gunning for a fifth consecutive win when favourite in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) but faded to finish fifth and nearly two lengths off winner Nechita.
The Gerald Ryan-trained filly has won six of 10 starts and more than $1.3 million in prizemoney but is still searching for her first Group 1 win.
Patinack paid a $55,000 late entry for Nechita to contest the weight-for-age sprint after her dominant win on Saturday but were later refunded after deciding to send her to the spelling paddock.
Connections of 15 horses have accepted for the $1 million race including Manikato Stakes winner Sea Siren who will be striving for her fourth Group 1 title.
The John O’Shea-trained mare backed up her outstanding Brisbane winter carnival form, where she won the BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000, to score an explosive victory over Mental and We’re Gonna Rock in her first-up test at Moonee Valley.
Darley gelding Mental will get the chance for revenge and to claim a Group 1 win before he joins Godolphin’s operation in Dubai following the spring.
Looking to bounce back from a disappointing sixth in the Manikato Stakes is Queensland sprinter Buffering who is still searching for an elusive Group 1 victory.
Others running in the Patinack include Yellowglen Stakes winner Fontelina and Tony Gollan’s pair Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom.
