Small field of 8 to contest 2016 All Aged Stakes

A small field of eight gallopers will contest the weight for age Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Lee and Anthony Freedman’s exciting four year old Malaguerra is stepping up to weight for age company for the first time and has drawn nicely at barrier two with Blake Shinn to ride again.

Shinn was aboard Malaguerra when he won his fourth race on the trot with a victory in the Group 3 $150,000 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 26.

The Magnus gelding had won his previous three starts, two at Flemington last November and then resumed in the Autumn to win the Listed $120,000 ATA/Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) at Flemington on March 5.

Premiership winning trainer Chris Waller will saddle up two runners in Kermadec and three year old Press Statement.

Waller has given Kermadec the all clear after the four year old was under an injury cloud after finishing last of fifteen behind stalemate Winx in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 2.

Kermadec has drawn the outside barrier in the eight horse field and James McDonald takes over from Zac Purton.

Stablemate Press Statement, barrier six, has Hugh Bowman back in the saddle and is coming off a last start third to Winx in the Group 1 $1m China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 19.

Former West Australian galloper Black Heart Bart, now under the care of leading Melbourne trainer Darren Weir has Kerrin McEvoy booked to ride and will jump from gate three.

Black Heart Bart has had two runs for Weir resulting in a second to The Quarterback in the Group 1 $1.25m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12 followed by a win in the Group 3 $150,000 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on March 26.

The Gai Waterhouse trained English has performed well at weight for age during the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a first up win in the Group 2 $500,000 Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on March 5 and a last start third to Chautauqua in the Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 2.

English has drawn barrier seven in the All Aged Stakes with Sam Clipperton taking the mount.

Rebel Dane has drawn the inside gate with Jason Collett to ride while Perignon from the Gerald Ryan stable will jump from gate four.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes winning trainer Kris Lees will saddle up Italian import Goldstream who will be having his first start on Australian soil.

The Italian Derby winner has drawn barrier five with Brenton Avdulla taking the ride.
