Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero is set to target the Cox Plate

This year’s Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero is due to begin his run towards the Cox Plate with a start in the Tramway Stakes at Randwick in September.

The three-year-old gelding has now returned from the spell that followed his successful winter campaign and is back in work at his Wyong stables.

Part owner Greg De Vries said that Sincero would have his first trial in Sydney next month.

“We’re going to go to Randwick on the 19th of August to trial there,’ Mr De Vries said.

“Then first-up we’re going to the Tramway, which is on the third of September.

“From there we’ll take him down south to Melbourne and we’re planning for the Underwood over 1800m then we’ll go from there.”

Sincero’s final run of the spring is due to be in the $3 million Cox Plate.

Despite the fact Sincero has never raced further than a mile, Mr De Vries believes he will suit the 2,040 metres of the Cox Plate perfectly with the help of blinkers.

“The blinkers sharpened him up and he relaxes well,” he said.

“The Umatilla’s aren’t renowned as stayers but there are a couple of nice ones around.

“But he settles so we’ll we’ve always thought he’d cover a mile and a quarter, a mile and a half on his ear.”

The $8,000 yearling has won an impressive nine of his 13 race starts and has already accumulated almost $1.1 million in prize money.
