Multiples Group 1 winner Shoot Out finished fifth in a star studded barrier trial at Rosehill today.
The Chris Waller trained Shoot Out was under double wraps from Damien Oliver and after being wide for the majority of the trial went to the line to be beaten a couple of lengths by top class mare Streama.
Streama with Hugh Bowman on board led throughout the trial and also went to the line under a tight hold to beat Sacred Falls and Sincero with Hawkspur in fourth spot.
Oliver travelled up from Melbourne for the trials to ride Shoot Out who will resume in the Group 2 $175,000 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on August 24.
Today’s trial was Shoot Out’s second to prepare him for the Spring, having finished fourth in a Warwick Farm trial on July 26.
Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur raced on the pace all the way and maintained that position in the run to the line to run a tidy fourth.
Waller will aim the four year old towards the Group 1 $400,000 McGrath Estate Agents Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on October 5.
One of Waller’s other Group 1 performers Foreteller also had a quiet time at the trials in finishing sixth and will head towards the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Foreteller will be targeting the Group 1 $1m Longines Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 2 after finishing fifth to Glass Harmonium in 2011.
