Trainer Paul Messara has revealed that Scissor Kick is no certainty to contest the 2015 Arrowfield Sprint at Royal Randwick on Saturday and could be saved for the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at the same venue the following weekend.

Scissor Kick started his 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with a fast-finishing victory over Delectation and Harrier Jet in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 7 and he finished within a two lengths of Hallowed Crown after having no luck in running during the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on February 21.

The Redoute’s Choice colt was one of the best-backed runners in the Group 1 Royal Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Royal Randwick on March 8, but he was scratched the morning before the race due to a virus and has not been seen at the races since.

Scissor Kick contested a barrier trail over 1050 metres at Royal Randwick on March 31 and he was settled just behind Vashka in the early stages of the trial before he hit the line fairly to finish second behind Avoid Lightning, but Messara told Sky Racing HQ that he is not keen to run the three-year-old on a wet track in the Arrowfield Sprint this weekend and may instead give him another trial on Friday before he returns to racing in the All Aged Stakes.

“A lot depends on the weather,” Messara said.

“We are in a little bit of a tricky position with him.

“He had a little virus and we had to back-up off him, so the option is either to run Saturday depending on the weather or we can trial him against this Friday and put him in the All Aged.”

Scissor Kick is likely to head to Queensland for the 2015 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival no matter what race he contests in Sydney over the next fortnight and he will be set for the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 23rd and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at the same venue a fortnight later.

The 2015 Arrowfield Sprint field was released this morning and Scissor Kick is set to face the likes of Rubick, Delectation, Kuro, Nostradamus, Mossfun, Earthquake and Bring Me The Maid if he takes his place in the field for the Group 2 event this weekend.
