Satin Shoes will continue her racing career during the 2014 Autumn Racing Carnival after failing to get in foal during the spring breeding season.
Satin Shoes was retired after finishing ninth behind Howmuchdoyouloveme in the Listed Lightning Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm on June 8 and was served by Pierro but scans found that she was not in foal and owner Edmund Bateman elected to send the five-year-old back to the stable of Clarry Connors.
Connors is clearly delighted to be able to race Satin Shoes again and is confident that the daughter of Flying Spur can return to her best form and be competitive at the highest level of racing during her autumn preparation.
“She’s beautiful, she’s sound and she has developed a bit more,” Conners told AAP.
“She failed to get in foal which means I have her back for one or possibly two campaigns.
“There are a lot of nice sprint races coming up and 1100 metres is a beautiful distance for her.
“The Oakleigh Plate is there but it could be a bit soon.”
Satin Shoes started her racing career with a dominant two and a half lengths win in the City Tattersalls Plate (1000m) in 2010 and went on to win the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) and Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) as a juvenile before finishing second in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) and ninth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).
She returned as a three-year-old, during the 2011 Spring Racing Carnival, with a first-up victory in the Listed Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield and took out the Carlton Draught Plate at the same venue before finishing third behind Sepoy and Foxwedge in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
Satin Shoes was unable to add to her winning record in 2012, finishing second in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1100m) during the 2012 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and second in both the Group 2 The Shorts (1200m) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) during the 2012 Spring Racing Carnival, but finally broke through for another race win in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone in May last year.
If Satin Shoes is unable to return in time for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate, races like the Challenge Stakes and the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) could be on the agenda for the talented mare.
