Sagaronne is currently available at 2016 Magic Millions Guineas odds of $26, but trainer Toby Edmonds believes that the talented filly will run better than her price suggest in the $2 million event at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

A great deal was expected of Sagaronne during the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival after she finished second behind Press Statement in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) and she performed fairly in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10, but she was sent to the spelling paddock after she failed to fire in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on October 24.

Edmonds told Racing Ahead this morning that Sagaronne had taken plenty of benefit from a stint in the spelling paddock and he is confident that she will be more than competitive in 2016 Magic Millions Guineas – the easiest race she has contested since she took out the Listed The Phoenix (1350m) during the 2015 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

“She has come home from Melbourne where she went missing a bit,” Edmonds said.

“We were trying to get her to run the Oaks journey and whether she handled that or not I don’t know.

“Since she been home she has been working really well and she looks great.

“Back at her home track first-up she should run really well.

“I think she will run really well – she has form behind Stay With Me and if you go back to her Moonee Valley fresh run she was quiet unlucky.

“There is no Stay With Me or Jameka in this race and she has been racing against those level of horses now, so she is used to racing against that quality.

“If she gets a nice run in the race then she will finish off well.”

Sagaronne has shown that she is capable of competing at the highest level of racing and she will be up and running for the early stages of the autumn in both Sydney and Melbourne, but Edmonds said that he does not have any set goals for the three-year-old after the Magic Millions Guineas and he will reassess following this weekend.

“We pulled up stumps pretty quickly after she performed badly in the Vase to get her home and give her a month or so off, so we could run her first-up in this race,” Edmonds said.

“We will see how she goes and we will work out where we are going to go after that.”

Mahuta is currently available at 2016 Magic Millions Guineas odds of $4 with Ladbrokes and he is a narrow favourite from Egyptian Symbol ($4.60) and Flippant ($5), while Sagaronne is priced at $26.
