Safusa with winning Magic Millions connections

It was a case of the same players but a different combination when Safusa won the $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong Stakes (1200m) today.

Trainer David Pfieffer won the same race with Graceful Anna before she marched on to win  the 2009 Magic Millions Trophy (1400m) at the Gold Coast.

And that winning Magic Millions feeling doesn’t stop at the trainer.

Safusa sports the same colours as 2011 Magic Millions Classic winner Karuta Queen and has the same owners Glenn and Viva Williams.

The married pair must love horse racing and in particular the Magic Millions.

They picked Karuta Queen up for $30,000 and she has now returned $1.7m.

Safusa was more expensive but not much more.

Glenn Williams bought him at the same 2010 January MM Sale for just $45,000.

The slow maturing gelding has now won $114,000 in just six starts.

He will try to emulate Graceful Anna by running in  the same race now called the $1m Magic Millions Guineas (1400m)  at the Gold Coast on January 14.

.Jockey Jay Ford maintains the ride and so he should after a great display today.

Ford used his initiative and sped across the field from barrier 12 to lead.

He used the contours of the small Wyong track brilliantly.

Ford stacked them so well it would have made any pancake parlour owner  jealous.

Bella Rossie, More Awesome and Snitsky settled  handily while Pink Power was caught three wide with no cover.

Ford held Safusa together all the way around the home turn.

It forced horses behind to go wide and then wider to go around each other.

On straightening the field was 12 deep with just a few lengths between them.

As many struggled for balance, Ford kicked Safusa away and he comfortably held Angel Of Mercy and Ingham Magic.

Angel Of Mercy and fourth placegetter Pin ‘Em Down made significant ground but were victims of the Ford masterpiece.

Pfieffer is heading straight to the Gold Coast with Safusa.

He cited the fact the horse can begin, settle and kick as attributes that could also spell Magic Millions success.

TABsportsbet moved Safusa in from $21 to $6 third favourite behind Combat Kitty and Niagara for the MM Guineas.
