Dwayne Dunn will continue his association with Politeness in the 2016 Rubiton Stakes and he is confident that the star mare can return to the races with a win at Caulfield on Saturday.

Dunn steered Politeness to victory in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival and he was aboard the five-year-old when she finished fourth behind Lizard Island in a barrier trial over 990 metres at Cranbourne on February 8.

Politeness was not asked to do a great deal by Dunn in the barrier trial, but he was still happy with the feel that he received from the Myer Classic winner and he is thrilled with her condition ahead of the 2016 Rubiton Stakes.

“She had a very easy trial,” Dunn told Racing Ahead.

Robert was very mindful that we are going into this race on Saturday and she just needed a good gallop on the grass without having too much pressure applied to her.

“She is in good form, her fresh record is great and she gets in with a nice race.

“We expect her to be very hard to beat.”

Almost half the Rubiton Stakes field will be making their first appearance at the races this preparation, but speed filly Heatherly will have a clear fitness edge over the majority of her rivals after racing well during the summer period.

Heatherly is expected to take up the running in the Rubiton Stakes and Dunn admits that she could prove tough to run down, but the leading hoop remains confident that Politeness can finish over the top of her rivals and record another black-type victory.

“It (Heatherly) has the match fitness and no weight and she is going to be humming along on the speed there,” Dunn said.

“She is going to take a bit of winding back in.

“This won’t be Politeness’ grand final, but she is out there to go as good as she can go.

“Black-type is all important and Robert seems to have her in a really nice spot at the moment.

“I expect her to be very strong late and to be charging, so hopefully that is good enough to win.”

Politeness is currently available at 2016 Rubiton Stakes odds of $4 with Ladbrokes and she is on the second line of betting behind Heatherly, who is priced at $3.60 to record the biggest win of her racing career to date.
