Rubick has not been seen at the races since he was beaten as favourite in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 22, but he has been back in work for almost two months and has impressed trainer Gerald Ryan ahead of his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.

Jockey Brenton Avdulla is currently serving a suspension for careless riding and is not required to attend the races at Rosehill Gardens on weekend, but the talented hoop told TVN that there was no way he would miss the opportunity to maintain his relationship with Rubick.

“Gerald asked me whether he should just get another jockey for the gallop because I didn’t need to be there, but I told him no chance anyone else is getting on,” Avdulla said.

“I’ll just cruise out and do the gallop and then head back home.

“I’m really looking forward to the gallop, he has been in for a while now and is going super.

“He hasn’t grown a hell of a lot, but he is still well put together and he still feels powerful underneath me.

“He is a gentleman to do anything with; he has a good horses attitude, when he gallops he can fire up a bit but that is just him, he loves to run.”

Rubick caught the attention of the Australian racing public with a devastating seven and a half lengths win in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens on January 7 earlier this year and he made his racing debut with an impressive three lengths win in IPhone App Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on January 25.

The Encosta De Lago colt made his black type racing debut with a tough win over Jabali and Chivalry in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on February 8, but he was unable to claim a maiden Group 1 victory at the same venue a fortnight later.

Ryan is yet to decide on the path that Rubick will follow during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but he is expected to contest the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13 before the veteran trainer decides whether he will be set for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on Victoria Derby Day.
