The Chris Waller trained mare was able to hump 58kgs to easily dispose of a handy field of mares and proved her versatility as well.

Red Tracer is widely regarded as one of the best wet trackers racing in Australia but showed today that she is just as good on top of the ground.

The win by Red Tracer wrapped up a winning double for the Waller stable who scored earlier in the day with Boban in the Group 3 $150,000 Sportingbet Moonga Stakes (1400m).

Waller will now step Red Tracer back up to Group 1 company looking for her second win at that level after winning the $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

The Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 2 will be her third Spring start with Waller only giving her three runs this preparation.

“We have to have a go at that. Was always going to be just the three runs in the Spring, she deserves to be running in that,” Waller said.

“She carries big weights week in, week out against good horses, all sorts of tracks, she is just a beauty.”

Steps In Time set up a cracking pace which helped Nash Rawiller get over from a wide gate and Red Tracer was able to settle beautifully behind the leader and Koonoomoo.

When Steps In Time started to get tired at the top of the straight Rawiller allowed Red Tracer ($3.90 favouirte) to stalked Koonoomoo ($31) for another hundred metres before easing over her heels to score a soft two and three quarter lengths win.

Third placegetter Ava’s Delight ($41) put in an eye catching performance to finish third after missing the start by a couple of lengths.

Rawiller always gets a great thrill when he wins on Red Tracer and today’s win was his sixth from seven rides.
