Real Love takes out the JRA Cup

Former Perth stayer Real Love has found winning form again by taking out the Group 3 $125,000 JRA Cup (2000m) at Doomben today.

Real Love who won the 2015 Group 2 $500,000 Golden River Developments Perth Cup (2400m) at Ascot under the care Perth trainer Adam Durrant, but is now prepared by Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir.

Winning rider Brad Rawiller rode a patient race on the Desert King mare, settling her midfield on the fence before make his move at the 600m,

Rawiller had Real Love ($2.60 favourite) in the clear when heads were turned for the home and she was able to run down the leader and third placegetter Volkhere ($16) before holding off the late finishing Sir John Hawkwood ($4.20) to record a clear win.

Real Love showed that she is on track for the Group 2 $300,000 Evergreen Turf Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11 with today’s solid win.

Real Love was sent out as the favourite for the Group 2 $400,000 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville on March 14 two starts back when third behind Purple Smile and Tunes and then finished second to Doctor Care in a 2000m Handicap at Caulfield on April 23.

The David Vandyke trained Sir John Hawkwood also ran a good Brisbane Cup trial as did the Chris Waller trained Junoob.

Junoob looked a picture going to the barriers and showed that he will be hard to beat in the 2400m Brisbane Cup with his strong finishing effort at the end of the 2000m today to run a close up fourth.

Junoob is also among the first acceptances for the Group 1 $650,000 The Bundaberg Rum Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben next Saturday.
