Moriarty was also trainer Chris Waller’s third Eagle Farm winner for the day after taking out the Group 2 $200,000 Patinack Farm Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) with Red Tracer and the Group 1 $500,000 Channel Seven Queensland Derby (2400m) with Hawkspur.

Rawiller was aboard  Red Tracer while Jim Cassidy steered Hawkspur to his Queensland Derby victory.

While Gai Waterhouse provided Rawiller with his other winner, Romantic Touch in the Group 1 $500,000 Patinack Farm J.J. Atkins (1600m).

Rawiller was able to get Moriarty across from barrier sixteen and gave him a quiet run in the second half of the field before gaining a split in the straight to run down Quintessential who looked the winner half way down the straight.

Winning part owner Neil Werrett praised the ride of Rawiller and especially the way in he got over form the wide gate.

“Nash did great job to get him across in the first couple of furlongs and that’s where he won the race,” Werrett said.

“From the outside barrier I didn’t think he would be as close as he was. He’s got a good sprint to him that horse.”

Rawiller played the waiting game again and had to hold back at the top of the straight before letting Moriarty take the run in between horses.

“I just thought I would count to ten before I went. To be quite honest when I sort of aimed up for my run, it was always there and it started to narrow as I was getting to it,” Rawiller said.

The firmer track was also in Moriarty’s favour following his fourth on a slow track last week in the Group 2 $250,000 Al Basti Equiworld Eagle Farm Cup (2200m).

In an open betting race Moriarty started the second favourite at $7 with the runner-up Quintessential starting the top fancy at $6.50 with third placed  Zennista at $16.
