The 2017 Randwick Guineas Day results will be updated all afternoon at horseracing.com.au and hopefully the wet weather will stay away, so that the meeting will be completed.

The Randwick Guineas and Canterbury Stakes are the two Group 1 events at Royal Randwick this afternoon and both races will be very competitive affairs.

Chris Waller-trained Comin’ Through ($3.80) is a narrow favourite from the well-backed Invincible Gem ($4), Hobartville Stakes winner Man From Uncle ($5), Team Hawkes-trained Inference ($6.50) and Godolphin-owned Malaise ($9.50).

Chautauqua ($3) is clinging onto favouritism in 2017 Canterbury Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes from Bjorn Baker-trained Music Magnate ($3.80), 2016 Royal Randwick Guineas winner Le Romain ($5) and Kiwi three-year-old Ugo Foscolo ($7.50).

The Randwick Stakes was run at an incredibly slow tempo, but Astronomos travelled into the race very nicely and he hit the front without being asked for an extra effort by jockey Jason Collett.

Astronomos kept running away from his rivals in the final stages and he looks set for a big spring campaign.

A brilliant ride from Glyn Schofield helped Elle Lou record back-to-back wins in the 2017 Aspiration Quality at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Elle Lou had never recorded back-to-back wins during her racing career to date, but she was able to build on her victory in the Stan King Handicap last start to claim a maiden black-type win in the Aspiration Quality.

Schofield was able to get Elle Lou to the outside of the track quickly and that proved to be the difference as she finished over the top of Song and Laughter and held-off a flying Alegria.

Redzel was the major danger and he flew home late in the best part of the ground, but English was able to hold him off to record a narrow victory.

The outside of the track has been the best place to be all afternoon and Le Romain charged home out wide.

Le Romain and Chautauqua came together at the 100 metre mark and Chautauqua looked as though he had his rivals measure, but Le Romain fought back in the final stages to score a third Group 1 victory.

Trainer Gerald Ryan said that he has plenty of options with Samantha, but suggested that she will head towards the PJ Bell Stakes during The Championships.

Invader looked as as though he was going to finish over the top of his stablemate, but Gunnison just kept on fighting and held on to make it two wins from as many starts.
