Caulfield trainer Mick Price has ruling Blue Diamond favourite Malasun running in Saturday’s Blue Diamond Prelude but is keen to assess the chances of stablemates Samaready and Tuscan Haze.

The three fillies are to clash in the Group 3 $125,000 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for fillies at Caulfield on Saturday and Price is very interested in the improvement of Samaready.

Samaready who is resuming after a short break, hasn’t raced since scoring an impressive win in the Spotless 2yo Plate (1000m) at Flemington on December 17 .

Price sent Samaready for a break after that win and said she has returned to the stable bigger and better and he has been extremely pleased with her progress leading up to Saturday’s race.

“She hadn’t done a real lot before the Flemington run but she was still very impressive,” Price said.

“She had a little break then came back into the stable looking terrific and she has lived up to that, she is working beautifully.

“I couldn’t be happier with where she is at.”

The More Than Ready filly is currently a $10 chance for the Group 1 $1m Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 25 behind stablemate and ruling favourite Malasun ($6) who is to be ridden by Damien Oliver.

Jockey Craig Newitt who won on Samaready at Flemington is back on her on Saturday.

Price had to rethink the Blue Diamond program for Malasun after the filly took out the Listed $100,000 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for fillies at Caulfield on Australia Day.

Originally he was going to send the Red Ransom filly straight into the Blue Diamond without another run but she pulled up so well that Price decided to chase the $1m bonus on offer by the Melbourne Racing club.

The bonus on offer is for any horse that wins the Patinack Farm Diamond Preview, Prelude and Blue Diamond Stakes.

“She was a little green when she raced in the Preview and with four weeks and two days between the Preview and Blue Diamond I just thought it might be too long,” Price said yesterday.

“She’s done really well. I could have galloped her on Saturday,” Price said.

Unraced filly Tuscan Haze to be ridden by Noel Callow, is Price’s other runner in the Blue Diamond Prelude.

With no public appearances to date, Price will be keen on how the Flying Spur filly out of the well performed mare Halibery stacks up against his other fillies.
