New Zealand three year old Platinum Kingdom bought his good Sydney Autumn Carnival form to Doomben today with an impressive win in the Group 3 $125,000 Grinders Coffee Fred Best Classic (1350m).

The Lisa Latta trained Kiwi gelding won the Listed $100,000 McGrath Estate South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Randwick on his way to Brisbane, showing off some of his New Zealand form.

Platinum Kingdom left a couple of big names in his wake with race favourite Academus running home for a close third with the Chris Waller trained Boban splitting the pair in second spot.

Local three year old Sizzling settled midfield from the inside barrier but was never in the hunt and struggled to make an impression in the straight.

Today was Sizzling’s second unplaced run this preparation and is struggling to regain last year’s outstanding two year old form.

Latta will now aim Platinum Kingdom for the Group 2 $350,000 Sky Racing Queensland Guineas (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 1 and will be suited by the bigger Eagle Farm track as will Academus.

“He’s just an honest and tough horse, he tries his heart out every time,” Latta said.

“He was always coming to Brisbane. We couldn’t quite get him to Brisbane for the first race we wanted to come to so we ended up going through Sydney. He really thrived up there and he’s done even better down here.”
