Unbeaten filly Petits Filous remains the short priced favourite in the countdown to the Group 1 $450,000 City Jeep Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley tonight.
The Ciaron Maher trained Petits Filous is chasing her fifth win from five starts in the weight for age sprint and after opening at $2.50 when the final field was released on Wednesday, has firmed in to be the $2.20 clear pick with Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Street Boss filly won her first two races over the same course and distance as the Moir Stakes before winning the Group 3 $150,000 Lister Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 15.
At her last start Petits Filous scored an easy win in the Listed $120,000 Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on September 12 and Maher has reported that everything in is order with his new stable star.
“She is another horse that has just continued to improve,” Maher told RSN Racing.
“She has been up and racing for a little while, but she has had little breaks and good spacing between her racing and she seems in really good order and I am quite happy with her.”
“She has drawn nicely, so hopefully she can get a nice run and continue her way.”
Damien Oliver has been aboard Petits Filous for all her four wins but is unable to get down to the 51kg she has to carry under the weight for age scale enabling Glen Boss to secure the plum ride tonight.
At the top of the weight scale is four times Group 1 winner and two times Moir Stakes winner Buffering who has 58.5kg to contend with.
The Robert Heathcote trained Buffering scored his first Moir Stakes win in 2012 when it was run as a Group 2 race and was able to beat Lankan Rupee last year in a driving finish when it was run over 1200m.
Buffering is on the third line of betting at $7.50 while the other three year old filly in the race, Fontiton splits the Queensland sprinter and Petits Filous at $4.60.
Fontiton was rated as one of the best Victorian two year olds last season and was sent out the favourite for the Group 1 $1m Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February before finishing fifth to Pride Of Dubai.
Smart mare Angelic Light has firmed slightly from $11 to $10 to share the next line of betting with Joe Pride’s speedster Ball Of Muscle.
The Peter Moody trained Flamberge has come in for some support and has firmed in from $13 to $11.
Flamberge was able to join the list of Moody’s Group 1 winners with his victory in the $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in May and resumed from a short break for a second to Chautauqua in the Group 2 $200,000 Mitty’s McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 5.
