Trainer Paul Messara received the perfect result when his two colts Scissor Kick and Panzer Division ran the quinella in the Group 3 $125,000 Synergy FX Up and Coming Stakes (1300m) at Randwick today.
After a lengthy delay the judge gave the tight photo finish decision to Scissor Kick ($7), ridden by Tye Angland over his stablemate Panzer Division ($17) with Kathy O’Hara aboard.
Messara and plenty of observers believed that a dead heat should have been the result but Messara was happy with any way the judge went.
“They have unlimited ability these two colts, by Redoute’s Choice, they both have stallion potential and we are all very excited,” Messara said.
“I’m hoping it is a dead heat, two Group 3 winners in the one race would be a great result.”
“It’s the perfect result for us, It’s fantastic.”
“Panzer Division is heading towards the Spring Champion Stakes and obviously Scissor Kick heading towards the Golden Rose. So that’s the direction they are heading in but they both might end up in the Golden Rose.
The Gai Waterhouse trained Liberation lead the field into the straight but repeated what he did last start and ducked out badly over the concluding stages on several occasions hampering stablemate Valentia ($31) and the heavily backed favourite Better Land ($3.20).
Liberation ($5) went on to be third across the line but was relegated to fifth after fourth placegetter Valentia and fifth placegetter Better Land protesting successfully against Liberation.
While Liberation was causing chaos, Scissor Kick and Panzer Division were back towards the inside and missed all the trouble out wide.
