Trainer Gerald Ryan has confirmed that Solicit will likely head to Melbourne for the 2016 Orr Stakes after she performed strongly in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens this morning.

Solicit contested the second barrier trial of the morning over 900 metres and she was kept under a heavy hold throughout, but she was still able to find the line strongly to finish a strong second behind Our Boy Malachi.

Ryan was happy with the barrier trial performance of Solicit and he told The Punters Show that the talented mare will return to the races in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on January 30 before she makes the trip to Melbourne for the Group 1 Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 13 and the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at the same venue a fortnight later.

“She isn’t a noted 1200m horse but we haven’t given her a long break over summer, she only had 18 days off and then did a fair bit of work in Melbourne before coming back to Sydney,” Ryan said.

“The Expressway will be a good kick off with her because I’d like to take her back down to Melbourne for the Orr Stakes and Futurity.

“From there we would like to come back for some mares races in Sydney but I’m really happy with where she is at.”

Solicit was transferred to Ryan at the start of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival last year and she ended a lengthy losing streak when she flew home to take out the Group 3 The Darley Crown (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on May 9 before she finished second in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 23.

The Street Cry mare started her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a close second behind La Passe in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 17 and she failed to fire in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on October 31 before she returned to her best form with a dominant four and a half lengths romp in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown on November 14.

Solicit has accumulated just short of $900,000 in prizemoney during her racing career to date, but she is still chasing the maiden Group 1 victory that would make her a very valuable commodity as a broodmare.
