Trainer Kris Lees is giving his mare Onemorezeta a chance of causing an upset win over the favourites in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Onemorezeta is listed as one of the outsiders of the field at $41 at Ladbrokes.com.au, but Lees considers her to be well over the odds.
“She is a knock out chance but she is going to need luck from the awkward gate,” Lees told RSN’s Racing Ahead.
Onemorezeta has drawn barrier fifteen in the sixteen horse field, which will give jockey Jeff Lloyd plenty to think about in the early stages, but apart from that Lees said her lead up form has been okay.
Lees will also saddle up second favourite Danish Twist ($5.50) who is a winner at her last four starts and who has clashed with Onemorezeta on two of those occasions.
Onemorezeta finished second to Danish Twist in a 1300m Hawkesbury Benchmark 85 Handicap on April 30 and in the Group 3 $200,000 Godolphin Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone on May 14 before running fourth to Cradle Me in the Group 2 $200,000 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.
“She ran second to her (Danish Twist) twice,” Lees said.
“Then she was four weeks between runs the other day. Just probably had enough the last hundred metres. I think she has trained on well.”
Lees can’t fault the form of Danish Twist and is also giving her a great chance to figure in the finish of the Tattersall’s Club Tiara.
“Both mares are racing in good form,” Lees said.
“Obviously Danish Twist has won her last four would be the pick of them.”
“I can’t fault her form but I am just mindful that she has been up a long time, but indications are that she is in a similar vein going into this race.”
The Ciaron Maher trained Azkadellia heads the betting at $2.40 and Lees said that she deserves her place at the top of the market order and is the obvious one to beat.
“She (Azkadellia) is the class mare coming back to mare’s company,” Lees said.
“You have to respect her immensely. I thought she is the horse to beat.”
“Outside of her it looks like a typical mares race, a number of chances of which we probably have got one.”
Azkadellia was a winner three starts back against the fillies and mares in the Group 1 $1m The Coolmore Legacy Stakes (Queen Of The Turf Stakes) (1600m) at Randwick on April 9 before running second to Music Magnate in the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 28.
Then at her last start as favourite, Azkadellia had some excuses when she was caught on the worse part of the track when tenth to Under The Louvre in the Group 1 $1.5m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.
