Not Listenin’tome was also an acceptor in the Group 3 $150,000 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick but the Hawkes team’s decision to float the three year old down to Melbourne late in the week proved the right on.

Wayne Hawkes, who runs the Melbourne stable said that Not Listenin’tome would probably head back to Sydney next week before the rest of the his Autumn Carnival campaign is mapped out.

“We will just take each race as it comes. We pulled the right rein today. He will stay here a week or ten days and probably go back to Sydney,” Wayne Hawkes said.

Not Listenin’tome ($1.60) is owned by leading Hong Kong trainer John Moore but Hawkes said that the gelding’s immediate racing will be in Australia with plenty of rich races ahead during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Winning rider James McDonald had a trouble free run on the three year old and after giving him an easy run behind the leader Cruden Bay, was able to ease across heels and run away in the straight to score an effortless win from Consorting ($13) and Thermal Current ($7.50).

McDonald was having his first ride on Not Listenin’tome and predicts a bright future for the young galloper.

“He is an unbelievable race horse. He is very laid back and has the right attributes to be a very good horse,” McDonald said.

“He is just one out of the box and hopefully I can stick with him.”
