Trainer Gerald Ryan has confirmed three-year-old Bachman will not progress to the 2015 Queensland Derby (2200m) at Doomben in two weeks after failing to make anything of an impact in Saturday’s Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2020m).

Bachman was rated a leading chance for success in the Grand Prix Stakes after running on for a credible third in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) at Rosehill on May 9th, but never appeared in a position to win after running into interference early and forced to settle towards the tail of the field.

Understandably disappointed with the All American colt’s performance, Ryan confirmed he will keep the three-year-old in work and instead target the Group 2 Queensland Guineas on June 6th over what appears a far-more suitable running distance of a mile.

“What happened early didn’t help but he was still disappointing,” Ryan told AAP.

“He can’t run in the Derby on that. He lost ground in the last furlong (200m).

“We will bring him back to a mile and maybe have a look at the Queensland Guineas.

“He hasn’t delivered and he hasn’t won for a while so I think his best chance to get a win is over a shorter distance.”

Bachman has posted two wins and a further three minors over his 12 career starts so far, undoubtedly stamping his claims as one to watch over a standout two-year-old campaign.

Debuting for a credible fourth in the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m), Bachman won a Warwick Farm minor over 1300m before posting undoubtedly his most impressive performance to date when beating a talented field to the line in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) on April 5th.

Unable to handle the pace and 12th upon resuming in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) in spring, the colt out of Ain’t Seen Nothin’ ran fourth in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) and third in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m) and returned to the paddock following a credible sixth in the Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m).

The 2015 Queensland Guineas final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday June 3rd.
