Inconsistent filly Flying Snitzel will spend the majority of her 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign in Melbourne with the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby day the ultimate target for the rising four-year-old.

The form of Flying Snitzel was frustrating for trainer Gerald Ryan, as well as punters all around Australia, during the 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival after she scored a thrilling victory over duel Group 1 winner Norzita in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington but failed in her subsequent appearances in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and Scone Guineas (1400m).

Trainer Gerald Ryan said the spring campaign for the daughter of Snitzel will depend on her form when she resumes but the Sydney-based trainer highlighted the Myer Classic or the Group 3 Maybe Mahal Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day as the likely targets.

“She will come back into the stable after four weeks pre training on Friday,” Ryan said on the Racing HQ radio program.

“She will be aimed at the mares races in Melbourne in the Spring, starting in Caulfield before going on to Flemington.

“Whether she runs in the Myer Classic or the other mares race on Melbourne Cup day will depend on how she is going but she will do the bulk of her racing in Melbourne.”

Flying Snitzel has recorded one win from one career start in Melbourne and appeared to relish the long Flemington straight in the Kewney Stakes in March.

Her possible spring kick-off points include the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 7 and the How Now Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later at Caulfield.
