O’Brien will kick off Miss Rose De Lago Spring Carnival campaign in the Group 2 $200,000 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 13 and then head to the Group 2 $250,000 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 3 before O’Brien finalises the rest of her Spring Carnival program heading towards the Myer Classic.

“We’re probably going to run her against the boys earlier in the spring, she’s not a mare that’s going to perform below a mile (1600m) or 1400m first up,” O’Brien told racing.com.

“We’ll get a fair indication of where we’re headed with her after the first couple of runs but there’s obviously plenty of mares targets for her later in the spring like the Myer Classic.”

O’Brien took Miss Rose De Lago to racing.com Park at Pakenham on Monday morning and was very pleased with her three lengths win over stablemate Paco Express in a 1000m jumpout.

Damien Oliver was on board in the jumpout and let the mare settle off the speed before letting her go in the straight.

“She went really well this morning (Monday) and she’s been going really well in her work at home,” O’Brien said after the jumpout on Monday.

“She just came here for a day out today but she’s a super-competitive mare and she’s always going to show you something when you get her out of the gates and she showed her class this morning.

“Damien (Oliver) was very pleased and gave me a really good report on how she went. The polytrack is a really good surface and she appreciated it.”

Miss Rose De Lago showed her class during the 2015 Melbourne Spring Carnival when she led all of the way to record a three and a half lengths win in the Group 3 $150,000 Nine West Ladies Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield.

O’Brien then stepped Miss Rose De Lago up to Group 1 class in last year’s Myer Classic but she failed to beat a runner home when fifteen to Politeness after being fractious in the starting stalls and her jockey Opie Bosson reported that she was a spent force at the 800m mark.

Following a spell Miss Rose De Lago performed well from four starts during the 2016 Autumn Carnival and was able to record a third in Group 3 $150,000 Premier Signs Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield and found the winner’s stall when she led all of the way to take out the Group 2 $200,000 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley two starts later.
