Michael Walker has been the retained rider on Comin’ Through since his impressive win in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Derby Day in spring, but trainer Chris Waller has been forced to seek replacements for the hoop after he was ruled out indefinitely with a back injury.

Hong Kong’s leading jockey, Moreira has experienced plenty of top line success in Australia through several ‘hit-and-run’ missions and Waller is thrilled to have again secured his services for the Randwick Guineas 2017.

“With Michael Walker hurt we booked Jo when Hugh Bowman was suspended,” Waller told AAP.

“We have decided to keep Comin’ Through here for the Randwick Guineas rather than go to Melbourne for the Australian Guineas.

A brother to champion runner Criterion, plenty of hype surrounded Comin’ Through’s competitive debut and the colt did not disappoint; storming home to beat a talented field to the line in the Ranvet’s Salkavite Maiden (1400m) on September 14th.

Running on for second behind Niccolance in the Royal Randwick Fashions BM70 (1400m) on October 8th, the son of Fastnet Rock was rated only an outsider in the Carbine Club Stakes, but produced a big late effort on the Flemington course to swallow up his rivals with 100m to run.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his 2017 campaign, Comin’ Through did not have conditions to suit in the Group 3 Eskimo Price Stakes (1200m) first-up, but hit the line well to finish fifth.

Having clearly taken benefit from the run when he lined up for the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, Comin’ Through was caught towards the tail of the field but ran on well to finish third.

The 2017 Randwick Guineas field is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (March 1st).
