Boom Time was sent out as the second favourite at $6.50 when third to the $1.90 hot pot Delicacy in the Group 2 $400,000 Schweppes W.A.T.C Derby (2400m) at Ascot last Saturday under the care of top local trainer Trevor Andrews.

Owner Kim Loxton was thrilled with the effort of the Flying Spur colt and said that he deserves his chance to chase another Derby in the eastern States and selected Moody to prepare him for the Group 1 $600,000 Channel 7 Queensland Derby (2200m) at Doomben on June 6.

“He was fired up early and it was a great run under the circumstances,” Loxton told The West Australian.

“He will go down to the farm for a week on the grass and then fly across to Melbourne next week.

“Peter looked at the replay yesterday and he was very impressed by the run.”

The Queensland Derby will be run at Doomben over the shorter distance of 2200m this year because Eagle Farm is out of action for the Brisbane Winter Carnival due to the track reconstruction.

Moody began his training career at Eagle Farm and has had a mountain of success when he has returned for the Winter Carnival including wins in the Queensland Derby with Riva San in 2008 and Brambles in 2012.

Riva San was one of the stars of the 2008 Brisbane Winter Carnival winning the Group 1 $400,000 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm before backing up to beat the colts and geldings in the Queensland Derby the following week.

While Brambles scored a hat trick of wins in 2012 with victories in the Group 3 $125,000 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) and in the Group 3 $150,000 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) both at Doomben before heading across the road to Eagle Farm to win the Derby.
