2013 Melbourne Cup Odds take shape with the Gai Waterhouse trained Fiorente coming up as the clear cut favourite after drawing well at barrier five.

Fiorente ran second to Green Moon last year and Waterhouse has the six year old primed to win her first Group 1 $6m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on Tuesday.

Fiorente remains the favourite with bookies at $7.50 after drifting slightly out from $7 while the Luca Cumani trained Mount Athos has also eased in the betting and is now marked at $9.50 after drawing gate twenty-two in the twenty-four horse field.

“We are excited to have a horse good enough to be here and obvious twenty-two is a little bit wide, it’s better than twenty-four,” Cumani said.

“The good thing is we are not going to be in the stalls for too long. Let’s hope there is a bit of pace ant the field strings out a little and we can slot in.”

“He looks to be in very good form.”

French mare Verema is well in the betting at $15 after drawing barrier three while Irish St Leger winner Voleuse De Coeurs has drawn wide at twenty-one and has been marked at $17

The Clarry Conners trained Dear Demi drew just worst than midfield at sixteen after putting in a great Melbourne Cup trial when second to Side Glance in the Group 1 $1m Longines Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington today.

Dear Demi firmed dramatically after the Mackinnon and is now quoted at $21 with Chris Munce to take the ride again after being very pleased with the run.

Dear Demi is definitely a lightweight chance with 51kgs and has a liking for Flemington after winning the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at the track last year.

Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner has firmed to $16 after $21 was bet as has stablemate Sea Moon who is the best of the Lloyd Williams six runners at $14 while Green Moon is a $41 chance to win back to Melbourne Cups for the prominent owner.

Dandino, one of nine internationally trained gallopers in the race has drawn well at barrier seven and is well in the betting at $12.

I’m Happy for Fiorente to remain the favourite – keep’s Seville’s odds nice and juicy!

  2. winner winner says:

I think mt athos & simenon are better bets……especially at double the odds

  3. Sarah says:

His form is fantastic but I still think the likes of Verema and Voleuse De Coeurs have his measure!

  4. Lucy Henderson says:

so much money for fiorente – if they couldn’t do the first time won’t do it in round two!

  5. Phil M says:

Usually follow the favourites on MC day, but I think this year is a year for the roughies!

  6. Chi Chi says:

The profile for fiorente looks 1st class but after his gut buster in the COX PLATE and after witnessing JET AWAY fail in the MACKINNON on SAT I’m prepared to risk him. Good horse, but will have to be to win this, the best ever field I’ve seen assembled for a MELB CUP.

  7. The Situation says:

I am worried that Fiorente is cooked after his tough run in the Cox Plate.

No horse has won the Melbourne Cup after finishing second the year before since Empire Rose in 1988 so Fiorente is well and truly under the odds.

  8. Amazing Odds says:

Whoa these odds are amazing! How much can we bet does anyone know?

  9. Barry The Punter says:

    False favourite. Can’t win.

  10. HRacer says:

Fiorente’s odds are looking OK – probably better off on Green Moon though; he’s looking pretty good for the 2013 Melbourne Cup!
