Lucky Hussler has flown under the radar heading into the 2015 The Goodwood, but trainer Darren Weir believes that the talented galloper is in great order for the Group 1 event at Morphettville this afternoon.

Lucky Hussler started his autumn campaign with a fast-finishing victory in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 27 and he finished a gallant sixth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 18.

Weir said that he was happy with the performance of Lucky Hussler in the All Aged Stakes and he told Racing Ahead that the five-year-old is in similar order heading into the 2015 edition of The Goodwood.

“He is well, he is really well,” Weir said.

“He galloped good on Tuesday morning at Terang and I am really happy with the way that he is going.

“It was a great run and we were really happy with the way that he ran.

“He drew out, so he got caught a little wide through no fault of anyone’s and that is what happens when you draw wide.

“The horse ran great and he is in the same sort of order.

“I think that the preparation has gone great – the gap between runs gives him plenty of time to recover and plenty of time to get him right for the race.

“We are really happy with him and we are hoping that he can run well so we can press on to the Stradbroke.”

Lucky Hussler has drawn towards the outside of The Goodwood field, but Weir does not believe that barrier 11 will be an issue for the Group 1 winner.

Weir said that he expects jockey Glen Boss to settle Lucky Hussler off the speed in the early stages of the race and give him the chance to find his feet before he launches late like he did when he took out the William Reid Stakes.

“He is a better horse off the speed, but the barrier is ideal and he just needs to get a bit of cover in the three wide lane,” Weir said.

“It is a beautiful track Morphettville and he will get his chance in the straight.”

Lucky Hussler is currently available at 2015 The Goodwood odds of $6.50 with Ladbrokes and he is on the third line of betting behind the well-backed favourite Black Heart Bart ($4.20) and the resuming Hucklebuck ($5).
