Kamacite ($9) remains unbeaten for the Tony Gollan stable after Zac Purton took the Northern Meteor colt straight to the front and was never headed, adding today’s win to his two recent Sunshine Coast victories.

Favourite Mogador ($3.40) ran on strongly from the back to go down by a nose with Barood ($4.60) also making up some ground to fill third spot.

Kamacite led when winning at the Sunshine Coast and Purton had no hesitation in taking him to the front again after the first winner on the Doomben program, Upstart Pride, led all of the way to record an impressive win.

“It was good to get in my stable up here and he has done a great job today,” winning trainer Tony Gollan said.

“He was a double figure odds chance in the market and I just said to him (Zac Purton) just be nice and positive out, he always relaxes. He just settled and went so steady in front and gave himself every chance to have a good kick.”

Gollan is uncertain where Kamacite will have his next run but hinted we might be able to see him again taking on the older horses in the Listed $100,000 Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Handicap Day in two weeks time.
