An inquiry into one of the most bizarre events to occur in a horse race will resume this Thursday when stewards try and piece together the whip stealing saga.

Shane Scriven is the man at the centre of the drama after stealing another riders whip in a Queensland race last week..

Despite no formal protest being made Racing Queensland decided to follow up the incident after vision clearly showed Scriven taking the whip of apprentice jockey Ben Looker last Friday at Ipswich.

Scriven looked to be on the winner, Requested, half way down the straight when the whip was accidentally knocked from his grasp.

He then appeared to try and use has hand as a whip before reaching across and grabbing Looker’s whip as he moved up to the outside on his ride Toronto Dancer.

Requested ended up losing the race by a nose to Seeyou with Toronto’s Dancer half a head back in third spot.

The situation was made even more strange when Scriven politely handed back the whip after the post, the camera vision becoming a hit when it was broadcast across all major media networks.

It could be an anxious wait for Scriven who is due to partner Group 1 winner Scenic Shot throughout his Brisbane Winter campaign.

Scenic Shot will start his quest for a second Doomben Cup with a return to Eagle Farm this Saturday.
