Invader will be chasing back to back Sydney Autumn Carnival Group 1 wins in the Champagne Stakes after scoring an impressive victory in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick on the first day of ‘The Championships’ on April 1.

The Snitzel colt was a scratching from the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 18 because of a bruised hoof but lived up to the stable’s expectation with a dominant win in the Inglis Sires’.

The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig has nominated last start winner Eshtiraak but a decision on whether he goes to Sydney for the Champagne Stakes will be determined on how he gallops during the week.

“He looks like a miler so if he works well he’ll run,” David Hayes told the Herald Sun.

Eshtiraak made it four wins from six race starts with a last start win in the $100,000 Martin Collins Fibretrack Sires (1500m) at Mornington on March 25.

Michael Freedman has nominated Golden Slipper runner Frolic for Champagne Stakes with the Husson filly coming odd a last start seventh to Invader in the Inglis Sires’.

Trainer John Thompson is giving One More Honey one more attempt at an Autumn Carnival Group 1 in the Champagne Stakes after running ninth to Invader in the Inglis Sires’ which followed her win in the Group 2 $200,000 Vale Edgar Britt OAM Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 25.

Last start Inglis Sires’ sixth placegetter The Mission from the Paul Perry stable is also among the entries for the Champagne Stakes and showed plenty of promise with a two and a half lengths win two starts back in the Group 3 $150,000 The Schweppervescence Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on March 25.

Promising filly Whispered Secret will be chasing a hat trick of wins if trainer James Cummings accepts for the Champagne Stakes after the High Chaparral filly won her maiden at Newcastle two starts back on March 25 before winning the Listed $150,000 Adina Apartment Hotels Fernhill Handicap (1600m) at Randwick last Saturday.
