Michael Walker elected to settle Inside Agent towards the tail of the field and it proved to be the winning play as the Stravinsky colt picked up impressively when he was balanced up in the straight.

Walker revealed after the race that he had always had a strong opinion of Inside Agent and he was confident that he would be tough to beat in the Poseidon Stakes after he worked him earlier in the week.

“He trialed really good and the other day he was just a bit unlucky,” Walker said.

“I worked him since and I was really confident that he would go well.

“The wind is strong and from the 1400 I was getting blown over all over the place.

“It wasn’t until I got in the straight that I could hear anything.

“All in all I take the hat off to the horse.”

Trainer Nigel Blackiston was disappointed that Inside Agent had no luck when he made his racing debut behind Barthelona in his racing debut, but he was delighted to see the three-year-old show his real talent in the Poseidon Stakes.

The veteran trainer confirm that Inside Agent would progress through the rest of the 2016 Spring Racing Carnival and he said that the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Victoria Derby Day is the logical target for the Poseidon Stakes winner.

“He is still very green and very new, but he is a very promising colt,” Blackiston said.

“He is a beautifully bred horse and hopefully there are some exciting things ahead of him.

“He got his head up and was looking around a little bit, but once Michael got him balanced him came from last and was really strong through the line.

“The plan was to always try and get him to the Carbine Club Stakes, which I think is the right level for him this time in.

“Hopefully he can make a Guineas horse in the autumn.”

Magnarock loomed as the winner but was no match for Inside Agent, while Peacock toughed it out on the speed to finish in third.
