Trainer Desleigh Forster’s high opinion of I’m Cool could see the four year old embark on an ambitious Stradbroke Handicap campaign during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
Forster expects I’m Cool to continue on his winning way at the Gold Coast tomorrow in the $91,000 Sky Racing World Magic Millions Class 6 Plate(1200m) and another win will convince the in-form trainer to head towards the Group 1 $1m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 8.
“He’s a nice horse and he’s working his way through the grades nicely,” Forster said.
“The long range plan is to look at the Stradbroke but we will get through Saturday and we can assess him and see which way we go.”
“Qualifying the horse and what weight he gets are things you have to worry about along the way.”
I’m Cool has only been beaten once from five starts when narrowly beaten but Someday over 1200m at Doomben on August 18 but quickly bounced back into the winner’s stall at his next start by winning over 1100m at Doomben on September 8 before going for a spell.
The Falvelon gelding showed that he has returned from a spell in top order with an easy win over the 1200m Doomben course again on December 22 and Forster is confident that Michael Cahill will get a perfect run from the inside gate at the Gold Coast tomorrow.
“He’s a pretty brilliant barrier horse, one is always better than eighteen, but he’s laid back about it all and Michael has some options,” Forster said.
“There doesn’t look to be a lot of speed on paper so if he doesn’t lead he’ll box seat but he’s going to get plenty of favours.”
I’m Cool will again start a short priced favourite at the Gold Coast and currently heads the betting at $2.80 with New South Wales visitor Whisperossa the second pick at $5.50 and John O’Shea’s Carmione King and Team Hawkes’ four year old Forster are around the $6 mark.
