The rising three-year-old has not appeared at the races since finishing tenth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in April at the tail end of his autumn campaign that was highlighted by a very impressive victory in the Group 3 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm.

Trainer Gary Portelli told Racing Ahead that he has been delighted with All The Talk since he returned to work and believes the Stratum colt is primed to run well in the Vain Stakes.

“It has been a faultless prep, nothing has gone wrong and he is a big strong colt,” Portelli said on RSN.

“He is a monster of a horse now; he always looked like he was going to be and now he is.

“It looks a nice race at 1100 around Caulfield, with his racing pattern he will be fairly competitive in a race like that first-up.”

Portelli is not looking too far ahead with I’m All The Talk and said he will take it one start at a time after the colt runs in the Vain Stakes.

“I’ll just pick and choose his races and place him well I’m sure we will have a good campaign with him,” the Sydney-based trainer said.

“I think he can get 1200 but he will have to be at the end of his preparation and 1100 is his best distance at the moment.”

Portelli admitted that the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Victoria Derby Day was at the back of his mind but said I’m All Talk would have to prove himself at the highest level of racing before contesting such a quality race.

“That is the race that is at the back of every trainers mind that has a nice three-year-old but I don’t want to aim too high with him yet and we will just take it one step at a time,” Portelli said.

Glen Boss will ride I’m All The Talk in the Vain Stakes after travelling to Sydney to ride him in the barrier trial last week.
