The Houdini of Perth,  Neville Parnham produced more magic to get God Has Spoken to win today’s Group 2 $225,000 Cox Stakes (2100m) at Ascot.

God Has Spoken went into the race without a win in five previous runs this season – he also went in with a myriad number of gear changes.

Parnham removed blinkers and the bubble cheeker and added winkers and a lugging bit.

The win was ably assisted by son and jockey Steve Parnham who had the son of Blackfriars fifth in the running line after 150m.

Mega Steel set a quick pace in front from Battle Emblem with Tranquility and Big Ted must behind.

Odds-on favourite Ranger settled in the last three and at the 1000m mark was giving the leader 12 lengths.

At the 500m, it was clear horses ahead of God Has Spoken were struggling and Parnham let him slide up without effort.

Kincaple had followed God Has Spoken throughout and did so into the straight where Parnham had the lead.

Half way up the straight God Has Spoken dashed clear by three lengths and despite getting tired at the 100m mark, held on comfortably from Kincaple with Ranger making up a stack of ground for third.

A fortnight ago Neville Parnham turned the mind of Playing God to win the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) for the second successive year.

That galloper was also seemingly out of form.

Playing God was freshened at Kwinana Beach and Parnham had taken a similar route with older brother God Has Spoken in the lead-up to the Cox Stakes.

“I had changed his training routine a bit and he’s been frequenting the beach,” Parnham said.

“Playing God was freshened at the beach but I’ve kept the work up to God Has Spoken as he’s running over the longer distances.”

God Has Spoken’s next mission is the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on New Year’s Eve.

Ascot riding honours went to apprentice Kyra Yuill after a winning treble aboard Machino in the Watson Hcp (1600m), Miss Tahitian in the playeronline.com.au Hcp (1400m) and Moonlight Bay in the Listed WA St Leger (2100m).
