A good old fashion betting plunge added to a second Inglis bonus made it a thumping day for connections of lightly raced Hendricus at Warwick Farm today.

The John O’Shea-trained three year old scored impressively in the Inglis Bonus Mile (1600m)  courtesy of a well timed ride by Nash Rawiller.

O’Shea bought the Mossman-Only Vanda colt at 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $62.500.

And in just his seventh start, he took his career earnings to more than $267,000, of which $150,000 is in bonuses.

In May, Hendricus collected a $50,000 bonus by winning the Inglis Bonus 2YO at the Wagga Gold Cup carnival and added an extra $100,000 today.

“I’ll go anywhere for a quid, I’ve got four kids to feed,” O’Shea said.

Despite stepping up to the 1600m for the first time, Hendricus had been backed since Wednesday from $13 to start $4.80 favourite.

Rawiller eased Hendricus back early after being drawn in 12 while Haut Normandie sped in front.

In the straight Rawiller ease Hendricus to the outside and he powered home to win.

“The horse would have been something beat if he didn’t get up, I tell you that,” Rawiller said.

“The horses I was following into it weren’t taking me into it quick enough.

“I just had to bide my time turning for home and I really wanted to get him to the outside to get stuck into him and when I did he did the rest.

“It was a good effort.”

Hendricus defeated Fat Al by a head with Falklands another head away third.

“He’s a talented colt and he’s got a pretty race in him down the line,” O’Shea said.

“I think he’ll have a little let up now and have some targets in the autumn.

“Both of them are eligible for the Inglis Guineas at Scone and it’s just a matter of how we get there.”
