Talented three-year-old Bachman was unable to make much of an impact in his first-up start two weeks ago but has reportedly taken valuable condition from the hit-out ahead of Saturday’s Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).

Claiming two race wins and as many minor place finishes through his ten career starts so far, Bachman jumped from the gates well in the Egroup Security BM85 (1200m) on Randwick on April 18th; receiving a good run in transit but failing to produce much of a kick in the final straight to finish four lengths off the pace of winner Dublin Lass in seventh position.

Thrilled with the work produced by the son of All American leading into the 2015 Hawkesbury Guineas, trainer Gerald Ryan confirmed the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) in early June remains his major goal this time in, despite having not contested a race over 2000m so far.

“He has done well since his first race and the Queensland Derby is definitely the aim,” Ryan told AAP.

“I believe the 2400 metres will be his forte. He is bred to get the distance.”

Bachman was one of several talented two-year-olds in work for Ryan through his debut racing preparation during the 2014 Autumn Carnival but was anything but overshadowed; following up a credible first performance for fourth in the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) with consecutive triumphs in the TAB Ipad App Plate (1300m) and Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m); the latter remaining his most commendable result to date.

Unable to figure when fourteenth in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) upon resuming in spring, the colt out of Group 1 placed mare Ain’t Seen Nothin’ responded well for fourth in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) and third in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m); returning to the paddock after placing sixth in the Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) in which he made up ground in the final straight.

Bachman has included in a list of nineteen 2015 Hawkesbury Guineas nominations on Monday, and appears likely to line up alongside the likes of Nayeli, Redoutable Heart and Ygritte on Saturday.
