23 talented fillies and mares have been included in 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) nominations, highlighted by the pending appearance of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing at Morphettville on Saturday.
Winner of the 2013 edition of the Robert Sangster, Platelet has been confirmed to retire into a career as a broodmare following his current campaign and has been included in nominations for Saturday’s feature.
Posting ten wins and a further four minors through her impressive 32 career starts, Platelet undoubtedly found career-best form to date through the 2013 Adelaide autumn, highlighted by consecutive wins in the Robert Sangster and Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).
Returning in 2014 in similarly good condition, the Strategic mare won the 55 Second Handicap (955m) first-up before running second in each of the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) and her title defences of the Group 1 sprints.
Having won the 55 Second Handicap before a luckless run for sixth in the Irwin Stakes so far this time, trainer Darren Weir is confident a return to 1200m will see a return to scintillating form for Platelet this weekend.
South Australian native Miracles Of Life won the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at the conclusion of an incredible debut preparation in 2013 and has returned to competitive form for Peter and Paul Snowden leading into the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes.
Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times through her 16 career starts, the Not A Single Doubt mare charged home to beat a talented field to the line in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) first-up this time; boxing on for a credible third in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) last time out on March 21st.
Avoid Lightning carries winning form into the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes and is sure to lay a great account for herself over the 1200m Morphettville course.
Claiming eleven wins over a 26 start career which has also included seven minor place finishes, the Blevic mare won each of the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) and Listed Listed June Stakes (1100m) most notably leading into the credible third in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in 2014.
Returning for a solitary start and success in the Group 3 The Nivison (1200m) in spring, Avoid Lightning was unable to make much of an impact when tenth in The Galaxy but responded in the best way possible when comfortably winning the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on April 11th.
Several classy three-year-olds have been included in 2015 Robert Sangster nominations, including Stakes winners Bring Me The Maid and Sabatini.
Winning the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) before placing a commendable third in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) through her maiden racing campaign last autumn, Bring Me The Maid was unable to produce much of a consistent run of form through spring but returned for a close second in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) on April 11th.
Undoubtedly finding career-best form to date through her current preparation, Sabatini won both the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) upon returning to competition; running second in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) on March 14th before a luckless fifth in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) a fortnight ago.
Winterbottom Stakes champion Magnifisio has also been included in 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes nominations, while Politeness, Vain Queen and Tycoon Tara all appear in the right form for competitive tilts.
A 2015 Robert Sangster final field of 20 is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
