Griante was the winner of the Group 1 $700,000 Banjo Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and was due to line up in the Group 1 $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

But the David Brideoake trained mare pulled up with some filling in one of her joints after galloping on Tuesday morning at Mornington, ruling her out of a trip to Adelaide.

Brideoake also shares in the ownership of Griante with Auckland-based Brendan Lindsay and a joint decision was made to retire the Group 1 winning mare.

“The injury she suffered isn’t a major and David said we could have medicated it in the hope of racing again, but we’ve decided she’s too valuable to take any risks with and she can go to stud,” Lindsay told The Informant.

“On her day she was right up with the best Australian sprinters.”

“So many times though she had no luck with her barrier draws. She won The Galaxy from the inside gate and at her last start, the Robert Sangster, she drew well but missed the jump and had to come from last to finish fourth.

“She had drawn well again in the Goodwood and we were looking forward to maybe landing another Group One, but it wasn’t to be.

Since her win in the Galaxy, Griante ran sixth to Two Blue in the Group 2 $300,000 Sensis Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 9 followed by a fourth to Precious Gem in the Group 1 $400,000 UBET Classic (Registered as Robert Sangster Stakes) (1200m) at Morphettville on May 7.

Griante is a winner of seven of her twenty-nine starts and collected just over a $1 million in prizemoney for her connections.
