Premiership leading trainer Tony Gollan will saddle up four runners in the Listed $100,000 Queensland Bus Industry Council Brisbane Handicap (1640m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Last start all the way Doomben winner Traveston Girl heads the team which includes Trakstar, Best Of The Rest and ex Darren Weir trained mare First Bloom.
Traveston Girl returned from an unsuccessful Melbourne Spring Carnival campaign to record a one and a half lengths win in the Listed $100,000 Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes (1600m) at Doomben on November 21.
Tegan Harrison bounced the Flying Spur mare to the front and dictated the race from the start and will get the same opportunity this week after drawing barrier two in the capacity fourteen horse field.
Traveston Girl won with 54kg last start over the similar distance with the minimum 54kg and will carry the same weight again this week and Gollan can see her being the one to beat again.
“At the moment she is about as good as we can get her. I would expect her to roll forward and be hard to beat,” Gollan told AAP.
“She stays down on the minimum weight after they scaled the race so there should be no excuses.”
Gollan is keen to see how his new stable acquisition First Bloom performs at her first run for the stable after the mare won her last start over 2040m in a BenchMark 78 Fillies and Mares Handicap at the Moonee Valley night meeting on November 13.
“As you would expect she arrived here in fine fettle. She has had two weeks at Washpool Lodge and has been in the stables for a week,” Gollan said.
“Her best form is around the 2000 metre mark but she worked well and is ready to race.
“There is also the option of an 1800 metre race for her on Boxing Day at the Gold Coast.”
First Bloom drew barrier thirteen while Trakstar came up with the outside alley with Luke Tarrant to ride.
Trakstar will be better suited stepping up to the mile after finishing ninth first up in the Listed $100,000 One Key Resources Keith Noud Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on November 14.
Gollan is expecting Best Of The Rest to continue to improve and a better barrier this week will help his chances.
Best Of The Rest jumped from barrier thirteen last start when fourth to stablemate Traveston Girl and this week with Jim Byrne in the saddle again should get a better run from gate seven.
“Luck has deserted him this campaign but he is getting close to a win. I have been waiting for him to draw a good barrier so he can be ridden closer,” Gollan said.
