Military Rose has won the Gold Coast Guineas

Military Rose capped off a day of upsets at the gold Coast with a very gutsy triumph in the Gold Coast Guineas.

After going to the lead at the top of the straight all the other runners had their chances in the final 400m but they couldn’t do enough with Military Rose maintaining a steady pace right through the journey.

From the jump there’s no doubt Military Rose was one of the best placed and from barrier two was always going to be a big player despite some hefty odds.

The lead was never more than a length though as soon as the move was made which would have left an uncomfortable feeling for the connections as the moves came from further back in the field.

Skating On Ice was perhaps the most impressive runner after jumping from wide in gate 13 and settling three wide without cover for most of the trip.

Despite this the horse made a run in the final 200m and applied a bit of pressure to the eventual winner.

Celtic Dancer was the other horse of note which crept up the middle of the two late and forced a way into the picture.

Military Rose was never genuinely threatened though an won comfortably enough from Celtic Dancer in a photo from a very game Skating On Ice.

All these horses now share Queensland Guineas aspirations and judging off today’s run they aren’t easily split.

Military Rose did win the race but had a much easier time of it then Skating On Ice which did a mountain of work early on.

Celtic Dancer didn’t have the cleanest of journeys from gate eight either so a future rematch in Brisbane would be very interesting.

It could come down to the ride of a jockey and the luck of the draw with today’s finishing positions going in order of their barrier fortune.

Still take nothing away from Military Rose which did the exact job asked of it and recorded a victory which was ecstatic for the owners and anguishing once again for the punters.
